When should you change your pillow?

When should you change your pillow?

Changing your pillow regularly is essential for both hygiene and neck support. Here’s why and how often you should consider changing your pillow.

Why Change Your Pillow:
  • Hygiene: Pillows collect oils, dead skin cells, and dust mites over time, which can aggravate allergies. We also breathe moisture into our pillows every night, creating the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.
  • Support: Pillows lose their shape and firmness, which can lead to neck pain and poor sleep quality.
  • Freshness: Regularly changing your pillow helps keep your bedding fresh and conducive to good sleep.

General Guidelines for Pillow Replacement:

  • Replace your pillow every 1 to 3 years, depending on its material and usage.
  • Use pillow protectors to extend the life of your pillow by shielding it from sweat and oils. Memory foam pillows in particular can lose their ability to perform from moisture damage. Protect your pillow investment with a breathable , washable and waterproof pillow protector.

Benefits of Regular Pillow Replacement:

  • Enhanced comfort and support, reducing neck pain and sleep disturbances.
  • Improved cleanliness, reducing allergens like dust mites.
  • Better overall sleep quality, contributing to greater health and well-being.
Remember, a good pillow is key to a night of good sleep—invest in quality and change it regularly to maintain optimum sleep health.

However, those stains are typically caused by perspiration (with the average person losing about a litre of water each night), skin flakes, and everyday spills. These not only feed dust mites but also contribute to the growth of mould and bacteria.
