Caring for someone with dementia presents unique challenges, especially when it comes to managing continence. Those with dementia may struggle with recognizing the need to use the restroom, locating the toilet, or controlling their bladder and bowels.
For support,
Alzheimer’s Australia offers useful fact sheets, and the
Continence Foundation of Australia provides resources to assist carers in managing these challenges. These can be accessed via the links in this paragraph or via the National Continence Helpline at

Protect-A-Bed® enhances comfort and hygiene with our range of soft,
waterproof mattress protectors, designed to protect bedding from accidents. For those with frequent incidents, we recommend using two protectors or pairing a protector with a bed pad or linen protector. This layering allows for quick changes with minimal disruption, ensuring comfort and ease for both the patient and caregiver.
Additionally, our sister company,
Buddies®, offers Australian-made, reusable continence underwear, clothing protectors, and chair and bed pads, supporting independence and providing peace of mind. For expert advice on continence care and to explore our product range, contact our registered nurse at Protect-A-Bed® and Buddies® at
